Gibson Accessories’ 490R Modern Classic neck humbucker pickup features tonal characteristics that are similar to the company’s popular ’57 Classic but with a slight increase in the upper midrange for a more aggressive feel. It’s 100% pure humbucker but with a modern edge that delivers a more contemporary tonal range. It’s a testament to the 490R’s versatility that Music Bliss guitarists of all stripes have voiced their approvals over this flexible humbucker’s ability to cover everything from soulful cleans to brutal breakdowns. However, there is one area in which we found that the 490R really excels: loud, energetic rock ’n’ roll! If you’re looking for a bridge pickup to pair with the 490R, then its neck spaced pole pieces are perfectly calibrated to match the 490T, which is spaced for the bridge position. Finally, both employ Alnico II magnets for a super-smooth frequency response up and down the entire fingerboard.
